One of the main goals I had when I began showing and breeding Dachshunds back in 1976 was to win at our National Specialty. I think that goal has always kept me from being complacent and always striving for that next "Special" one. I am very proud of how the dogs that I have owned and bred or the ones descended from my producers have done at this very special gathering. I also am pleased that most of these wins have been owner-handled as I feel that says a lot about the quality of these animals. I have been privileged over the years to have had many memorable wins there, but have also been heart broken when some of my best have been overlooked!

I was very pleased when my first Champion also became my first DCA winner. CH Rose Farms Choo Choo, co-owned with Dee Hutchinson, was BOS-V and BOS-B in 1978 at the Kansas City DCA. She was shown there by Hannelore Heller.

CH Rose Farms Zesabel of Boondox became my first homebred DCA point winner when she was BW from the BBE class at the Denver DCA in 1980. At the time, she was owned and shown by Dee Hutchinson who sent her back to me soon after where she became an integral beginning of Walt and Mary Jones' Walmar Kennel. She also has the distinction of producing 4 DCA point winners herself.

At that same Denver DCA, I was thrilled to win RWD on a promising six month old puppy. I believe CH Boondox Chuckie Bunyan went on to fulfill that early promise by being both a Top Special and a Top Producer for his owners, John and Nancy Thompson.

CH Boondox Indigo v Walmar was WD at the 1984 DCA in Philadelphia under Mr. Dachshund, John Cook. He was out of Zesabel and sired by Gerolf and was a very elegant black and tan with a LOT of coat. Ruth Martucci was the owner and was as ecstatic as I was. He went on to sire several Dual Champions for her.

CH Rose Farms Hannelore Boondox was then chosen WB and BW and I was in shock!! Winning WD and WB at DCA still has to be one of my most memorable wins. Hanne was sired by Java and was out of CH Rose Farms Country Girl L (the first Pammy). She went on to produce the two time DCA BV winner, Chaps.

To make the weekend even more unbelievable, CH Rose Farms Dolly v Boondox then won BOS-V to make it almost a clean sweep under one of the breed's most respected judges. Dolly was a repeat of Zesabel, being sired by Java and out of Rose Farms Blackberry Buff L. She really had an impeccable front with fantastic little short hocks and was one of my early favorites.

Bayard la Manon gave me more thrills when she was chosen BV and BB at the 1985 Seattle DCA. She was also WB at the Host Show, but capped the weekend by winning the National from the classes!! She was a big, stunning bitch who was VERY difficult to show, so Fran Colonna asked me to finish her...and what a way to finish!
Manon's influence-through her son, Sting-was all over this year's DCA as ,in Longs, WD, RWD, WB, BV and BOS-V can all trace back to her, not to mention the Smooth WB that Martha Grantham and I co-bred

CH Bermarg's Shoney of Boonodx L won his first of three DCA BV's in 1988 in Sacramento. He followed this with a win at the 1990 San Antonio DCA and then capped his career by going BV and BB at the Anniversary Show in Louisville in 1995. His final BV was awarded him by LH Breeder Bob Wlodkowski who also gave him his first DCA BV in '88. Shoney was electric on the move , but was very bored with the picture taking process. As a result, none of his photos really do him justice.

CH Boondox Bradauch Kaos L was BOS-V to Shoney in Sacramento. She was a sister to Eclair, PJ's first Champion, and this was her only outing as a Special. KO was later bred to Shoney and produced CH Jumping Jack Flash L who was such a major influence in Australia.
